Another Almost Team Set: 2010 Topps Heritage NY Mets
Thanks to a contest run over at Community Gum I was treated to a couple of Pedro and Glavine cards as well as the majority of the 2010 Topps Heritage NY Mets team set. Fortunately, I also already had five cards that Jon did not send me.
Here is the list of the entire team set with the cards I already have crossed off:
Here is the list of the entire team set with the cards I already have crossed off:
144 Omir Santos |
324 Mike Pelfrey |
427 David Wright SP |
442 Carlos Delgado SP |
468 David Wright AS SP |
500 Francisco Rodriguez AS SP So that means that I only need six cards to complete the team set. Of those six cards, there are three I really want: the Mike Pelfrey, David Wright, and Carlos Delgado. I would be happy if I could grab at least those three. Unfortunately, the two below are short prints (which is quite annoying). I was not the hugest fan of this year's Topps Heritage set, but being only three cards away from what would satisfy me as a team set is too close to pass up. Thanks Community Gum! If anyone can help me out with any of these six cards, or anything else on my want list, let me know. |

A Trio of Ike Davis Cards
I placed my first order with Sportlots.com, and the first piece of that order came in the mail today. Three nice looking Bowman Ike Davis cards.
For some reason I really like Ike and have high hopes for him. I think it is because he reminds me of John Olerud.

Studio Stained Glass
I've mentioned before how much of a fan I am of stained glass and the inserts that mimic it. Below is Studio's 1996 Stained Glass Stars number six.
It's my third stained glass looking Piazza card. I think it would look a lot cooler with a Met logo in the background, but perhaps that's just me. I was a big fan of Studio as a kid, I spent a lot of money on packs from its inaugural set in 1991 up through 1995. I'm not sure how well those sets stand the test of time, but the 1994 set still reminds me of the team locker setups that they used to have at the Hall of Fame.
So anyone else out there a fan of Studio when it first came out?

A Couple of Metal Cards
Following my blog's emphasis on cards made of "alternative" materials, this week I bring you two different cards made of metal.
The first is my second printing plate: Bobby Parnell 2009 Ticket to Stardom (If anyone has the base version of this card, #216, up for trade let me know!)

I picked this up from Anthony over at the site formerly known as Mike Pelfrey Collectibles. I would suggest you head over there, especially if you are a Met fan, since he is selling off his collection. I have probably bought about 50 cards from him since he started selling them a while ago. He also has some non-Mets autos and game used left too.
I am hoping that Parnell develops into a solid closer for the Mets after K-Rod leaves. Perhaps even this season.
The second card comes from a group break held over at Cardboard Collections several months ago. One of the boxes in the break was from a set I had never heard of before: Stars 'N Steel. Basically every card in the set was printed on a fully metal plate. Colby was gracious enough to send me this Kerry Wood when no Mets came out of that box (fortunately no one had claimed the Cubs). They look better in real life, but my scanner could not do a better job than these shots from COMC.com.

Even though Wood did not turn out to have a prolonged career as a starter, he has turned himself into a successful relief pitcher and has not been injured much since making the switch. I thought it was cool that he took less money to come back to the Cubs and look forward to seeing him out at Wrigley in 2011.
Finally, if anyone out there has any of the following Chicle, let me know!
#69 Jose Reyes
#248 Tom Seaver
#249 Nolan Ryan
#320 Josh Thole SP
